Del Toro to Helm “At The Mountains of Madness”

Deadline New York is reporting that Guillermo del Toro’s next directorial venture will be a 3-D adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s classic tale of cosmic horror, At the Mountains of Madness.

Rumors of del Toro’s involvement have been floating around for years, but this is the first solid confirmation from the director that he’s really planning to take on the project. Further, reports state that James Cameron is on board as producer, bringing his expertise with the 3-D medium.

At the Mountains of Madness tells the story of an ill-fated expedition into the arctic that uncovers evidence that mankind’s past may lay among the stars.

While I heartily recommend that you read the original story (featured in Random House’s own collection The Road to Madness), you can also download a wonderful free audio adaptation read by Julia Morgan here. She has a lovely British voice which I find suits the tone of Lovecraft (a confirmed Anglophile) quite well.
