NYCC-Del Rey Star Wars Panel News and Cover Reveals

New York Comic Con has come and gone and Del Rey had some exciting news for fans of the Galaxy Far Far Away. Didn’t make the show? Missed the panel? Here’s what you missed:

Author Drew Karpyshyn was on hand to talk about his upcoming book, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan, which is on sale November 15. Mr. Karpyshyn also announced that he will be writing another tie-in novel to the upcoming MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic. The novel is currently untitled and Mr. Karpyshyn wouldn’t go into detail about the plot as it’s tied to the story of the game and he didn’t want to spoil the revelations that lie ahead for those that will be playing the game. The new book, the fourth to tie into The Old Republic and the author’s fifth Star Wars novel, will publish in Fall 2012.

Del Rey’s Frank Parisi announced that Tim Zahn will be writing a new novel starring everyone’s favorite smuggler, Han Solo. Details of the adventure were not revealed but he did say it would take place in the classic films’ era.

During the presentation, two new back cover images were revealed for the first time. The first was the back cover for the new novel from James Luceno, Star Wars: Darth Plagueis. The back cover features Darth Maul in an exciting action pose painted by artist Torstein Nordstrand. The second back cover reveal was for Troy Denning’s Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse. The cover was designed by Ian Keltie and features the engaged couple Jagged Fel and Jedi Jaina Solo. You can see both covers below.

Del Rey also teased the crowd with a small excerpt from the just received Apocalypse manuscript:

“Perhaps they feared Luke Skywalker just that much.

And that was a mistake.

Luke Skywalker was not the Sword of the Jedi. Jaina was, and now the Sith had trapped themselves inside a locked Temple with her.”

Finally, while not news, it’s worth a reminder that Aaron Allston is hard at work on a new novel featuring Wraith Squadron. Star Wars: X-Wing: Mercy Kill is due to hit book stands in the summer of 2012.

Look for Star Wars: Darth Plagueis by James Luceno January 10, 2012 and Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse by Troy Denning on April 3, 2012.
