New Drew Karpyshyn Star Wars: The Old Republic title announced along with more news and 2012 schedule

Del Rey’s Frank Parisi passed these announcements across my desk today and I just had to share them with you.

First, the Darth Bane trilogy and The Old Republic: Revan author Drew Karpyshyn is cranking away on his next novel, STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC: ANNIHILATION. Republic agent Theron Shan and his Twi’lek compadre, Teff’ith (from Dark Horse Comics’ STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC: THE LOST SUNS) must contend with a Sith Empire counter-attack against the Republic, spearheaded by the lethal apprentice of Darth Malgus. Satele Shan and Jace Malcolm co-star in what will be a fast-paced and tension-fraught tale based on the award-winning video game, Star Wars: The Old Republic, from BioWare and LucasArts.

The previously planned Nomi Sunrider novel (to be written by Alexander Irvine) has been cancelled due to changes in direction and concepts in the overall publishing plans. However, look for some exciting new announcements about 2013 (and beyond) in the coming months.

Here is our new release schedule for the rest of the year (this does not include mass market reprints):

Monday, March 5, brings us the eighth and final installment in John Jackson Miller’s epic series of free eBook short stories, The Lost Tribe of the Sith. Part 8, Secrets, will tie everything up and also open new doors for future stories (see below). You can download the free eBook short story for any eBook reading device or visit our dedicated Lost Tribe of the Sith page.

It’s the end of the world as we know it as the finale of the FATE OF THE JEDI saga, STAR WARS: FATE OF THE JEDI: APOCALYPSE by Troy Denning goes on sale MARCH 13.

STAR WARS: THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO WARFARE by Jason Fry with Paul R. Urquhart goes on sale APRIL 3. If you haven’t checked out the insanely cool EG TO WARFARE image gallery we’ve created on our Facebook page, please drop everything and do so.

Prepare for some crazy wall-to-wall Hutt action courtesy of new STAR WARS author Jeff Grubb. Grubb’s very fun STAR WARS: SCOURGE (no, not THAT Scourge from REVAN, the other scourge!) goes on sale APRIL 24.

STAR WARS: LOST TRIBE OF THE SITH: THE COLLECTED STORIES by John Jackson Miller will show you the true nature of the dark side of the Force JULY 31. We’ve had a blast with these eight stories and are stoked to see them all in one book along with an all-new ninth chapter novella, PANDEMONIUM.

Aaron Allston emerges from the FATE OF THE JEDI series with an all-new, rip-roaring tale about X-wing fighters and the pilots who love them in STAR WARS: X-WING: MERCY KILL, which goes on sale AUGUST 7.

Lucasfilm’s Pablo Hidalgo has read every book in the EU in order to write STAR WARS: THE ESSENTIAL READER’S COMPANION, which goes on sale AUGUST 21. In addition to Pablo’s obscenely massive—and humbling—EU knowledge expect a lot of jaw-droppingly stunning artwork.

The before-mentioned STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC: ANNHILATION by Drew Karpyshyn goes on sale NOVEMBER 13. Did I mention that I love the characters of Theron and Teff’ith from THE LOST SUNS? Suffice it to say I am über excited to welcome them to the world of STAR WARS Books.

Lastly, Timothy Zahn shared a few details about his upcoming classic-era Han Solo heist novel on his Facebook page last week, but what he didn’t say is that we’ll be publishing it in Winter 2012. A firmer release date and title will be forthcoming very soon.

May the Force be with ya’ll!

Any chance for a reprint collection of Star Wars short stories a la ATales of the Empire/Republic. I would like to have the Star Wars Insider short stories in one book.

Wait…Winter 2012 for a new Zahn book? Wouldn’t that mean it’d have to be out in the next few months?
