Gifts For the Geek: Day 4: Brave Blu-ray

Gifts For the Geek has reached Day 4!

I am an avid Pixar fan. The movie studio can’t create a bad movie. Imagine my delight when Brave was announced a few years ago. When the movie was released in theaters, I took an 8 year old and a 5 year old to see it. We had a great time and they loved every second of it—well, the 5 year old was a bit scared of feral momma bear!

What I love about Pixar is their ability to invoke the wondrous. They’ve done it time and time again. From Toy Story to Wall-E to Up, they consistently invoke that child-like side of me that refuses to grow up. It’s because of Pixar that I can’t see my shadow; it’s because of Pixar that I still love animated features.

With Brave, Pixar tackles the ever-evolving fairy tale!

Here is a bite more about it:

Set in the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland, Disney Pixar’s Brave follows the heroic journey of Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson).

Determined to change her fate, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane), unleashing chaos in the kingdom.

When she turns to an eccentric Witch (voice of Julie Walters), she is granted an ill-fated wish and the ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her resources including her mischievous triplet brothers to undo a beastly curse and discover the meaning of true bravery.

Brave is a beautiful story, about a young girl who must learn temperance and a mother who must let that young girl make her own choices. The action is riveting, the story is dark at times with the proper amount of comedy included, but overall the story delivers a wonderful tale that left me a bit teary-eyed at the end.

As most Pixar movies do.

Last week, Brave released on Blu-ray! It is a perfect gift for the geek—no matter the age or gender!

More tomorrow!
