Gifts For the Geek: Day 23: The Hobbit Soundtrack

Gifts For the Geek turns to music! And there is no better way to do it than showcase The Hobbit soundtrack!

Music is an important element to the movie-going experience. Some argue it creates the emotional depth that truly resonates with the viewer and induces the feelings that go alongside dialog and the visuals. I doubt The Lord of the Rings would have had the emotional impact it had with audiences without the enchanting music of Howard Shore.

Howard Shore is one of the best film composers working right now. About seven years ago, I saw him conduct the Seattle Symphony in all movements of his Lord of the Rings music and it was a very special night indeed.

So to say I’ve been looking forward to today would be a vast understatement!

Like many people, when I am working I like to throw on inspiring music. For me, movie soundtracks have been what I throw on most and the scores for Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King have been constant companions over the last decade.

With the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey soundtrack today, I have a new album to listen to!

You’ll see some familiar names, places, and words on the track listing:
