Norwescon 36 Grand Master: Terry Brooks

norwescon-skyscraperNorwescon 36 is this weekend in SeaTac, WA!

I’ve gone to the Pacific Northwest’s best sci-fi/fantasy convention for several years now. It’s small, intimate, giving people the ability to chat with some of the best talent in the business.

This year, bestselling author Terry Brooks is the Grand Master. He is joined by a number of great writers and artists including Catharine Asaro, Todd Lockwood, Gardner Dozois, Carol Berg, and Lee Moyer. I’ll be the bald guy running around on Friday and Saturday. The Spotlight Publisher is Baen Books. And Norwescon is also the convention that announces the nominees for the Philip K. Dick award!

Terry is fond of saying when you start getting Grand Master awards, you are just about dead. It should be great fun to see how he handles it! Ha!

Here is his schedule at Norwescon:

Thursday – 5:00 to 7:00 pm – Banquet Dinner & Opening Ceremonies

Terry will take part in the banquet dinner and accept his Grand Master award! Also, this is opening ceremonies for the convention.

Friday – 10:00 AM – Q&A

Terry will be interviewed and will accept questions from the audience!

Friday – 1:00 PM – The Origins of Magic

Creating a magical system isn’t easy. What are some good sources to pull from for the underpinnings of your magic? What can be borrowed from history, mythology, or religion that will make your magical system more believable?

Peter Blanton (M), Carol Berg, Terry Brooks

Saturday – 1:00 PM – Guest of Honor (GoH) Autograph Session

Our Guests of Honor are available to sign autographs. PLEASE NOTE: So that as many fans as possible can participate, we will be enforcing a three-items-at-a-time (or single-sketch) autograph limit.

Autumn Grieve (M), Catherine Asaro, Terry Brooks, Tony Daniel, Gardner Dozois, Lee Moyer, Edward Tenner

Saturday – 6:00 PM

Join Norwescon 36 Grand Master Terry Brooks and award-winning artist Todd Lockwood for visuals and discussion of their joint venture, The Dark Legacy of Shannara. See how they bring the Four Lands to life so vividly in Wards of Faerie, and preview what visions will come to life in the next novel, Bloodfire Quest.
