Cover & Synopsis: The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss

The Slow Regard of Silent Things
is coming.

What is it? For those of you who don’t know yet, it is a novella written by Patrick Rothfuss, set in the world of his Kingkiller Chronicle trilogy. It features Auri—a fan favorite character. Yes, many of us want Day Three in Pat’s fantastic trilogy. He is working on it. But for now, we get a look at the Underthing and the life that Auri lives there. I hate that I have to wait for The Slow Regard of Silent Things. But I know it will be more than worth it.

Pat talks about the novella on his website HERE. Definitely give it a read. It’s fascinating how a novella can come into being by the smallest and most innocent of comments.

Here is a bit more about The Slow Regard of Silent Things:

Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place.

Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes. And it gives the reader a chance to learn things that only Auri knows….

In this book, Patrick Rothfuss brings us into the world of one of the Kingkiller Chronicle’s most enigmatic characters. Full of secrets and mysteries, The Slow Regard of Silent Things is the story of a broken girl trying to live in a broken world.

I absolutely love the cover. It matches the newer US covers for The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man’s Fear. And it gives a glimpse at the Underthing, that area beneath the University where Kvothe studies and Auri lives. It’s evocative and that’s what a cover should be!

But don’t forget. Pat’s other Kingkiller Chronicle story The Lightning Tree publishes on June 17, 2014 in the anthology Rogues edited by George R. R. Martin & Gardner Dozois!

The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss publishes on October 28, 2014!
