Welcome back to the Star Wars HoloNet Digest, a weekly feature where I bring you a recap of the latest news from the world of Star Wars. Whether it’s an Episode VII announcement or a noteworthy author interview, you’ll find it here. Let’s check the HoloNet and see what happened in the past week.
Disney CEO Bob Iger told stockholders during the company’s quarterly earnings call last week that Lucasfilm will produce at least three Star Wars spinoff films in the foreseeable future. Iger didn’t discuss the spinoff films further, but with Disney releasing one Star Wars movie every year, this news means that there will be Star Wars in the theaters until 2021. Iger also said that he had visited Pinewood Studios recently and that he expected Episode VII to be phenomenal.
Star Wars Rebels executive producer Simon Kinberg provided more information about the Disney animated series in an interview with Collider during an X-Men: Days of Future Past press tour. Every season will consist of 16 episodes, although only one season is guaranteed at this point. Kinberg wrote the hour-long season premiere, which will air on the Disney Channel, and the season finale, which is currently being worked on at Lucasfilm Animation. Check out the interview for more details from Kinberg’s interview.
Today sees the release of Star Wars Storyboards: The Original Trilogy, J.W. Rinzler’s latest behind-the-scenes tome presenting the conceptual drawings that were used to produce the original films. This is the sequel to the prequel trilogy version that was released last year. Lucasfilm produced a book trailer, which you can watch below, and Rinzler wrote about both this book and Star Wars Costumes: The Original Trilogy (coming October 28) for The Official Star Wars Blog.
