Help Title My Next Anthology!

icon-grimoakWill you be publishing anything else?

That was one of the first questions I was asked when I published The Dark Thorn and Unfettered in 2013.

At the time, I didn’t know if I would publish anything else through Grim Oak Press. I had a lot to deal with at the time. The two books were released to end my medical debt accrued from cancer treatment and I had to finish that part of my life before moving forward. I also had to learn new skill sets to edit, design, market, and print the books. I focused wholly on them because they would free me from financial ruin. The future of my small press would have to wait.

When editor Roger Bellini approached me with an anthology titled Neverland’s Shadow and I saw the line-up, I knew instantly that I wanted to publish it. It was a quality anthology worthy of Grim Oak Press. It was also an anthology with a great theme:

Stories told from the point of view of the villain!

And here is the line-up:

  • Terry Brooks (introduction)
  • Ann Aguirre
  • Piers Anthony
  • R. Scott Bakker
  • Jim Butcher
  • Glen Cook
  • Tang Fei (Chinese tranlsated work)
  • Mark Lawrence
  • Tanith Lee
  • Ken Liu
  • Scott Lynch
  • John Marco
  • Tim Marquitz
  • Peter Orullian
  • Kat Richardson
  • Anthony Ryan
  • Shawn Speakman
  • Michael J. Sullivan
  • Adrian Tchaikovsky

I never felt that the title Neverland’s Shadow was quite right though. It doesn’t speak as strongly as I would like to the villainy within. Additionally, in an indirect way, it implies stories based on the tale of Peter Pan. That couldn’t be farther away from the actual content of the stories.

I talked to my agent and Roger. And we spoke to most of the contributors. All agreed that a new title might serve the book better.

But what title?

I have always worked better in a collaborative setting. As Terry Brooks’ long-time webmaster, I’ve included his fans in major decisions that affect their online experience. And I’ve never regretted it. Usually readers have better ideas than I can conjure. And if not, those ideas inspire new ones.

That is why Roger and I are asking for your help. We want you to submit your best titles for our anthology!

Enter your title suggestion(s) below in the Comments section. You may enter as many times as you like. When the contest closes on August 31st, Roger and I will pour over all of the recommendations, both from the comments field below as well as the Grim Oak Press contact page. We will decide on a title.

And, by doing so, select the winner of a limited Signed & Numbered edition of the anthology!

If we choose a title that has been submitted multiple times by different people, then the winner will be drawn randomly from those entries. Pretty simple, right?

You have until August 31st to enter. HERE are the official legal rules. The winning title and winner will be announced on September 3rd when pre-ordering for the hardcover begins!
