Wattpad, a multi-platform publishing company enabling readers and writers to publish, comment and collaborate on original works of fiction, has just released a new app: Tap.

Wattpad describes¬† Tap is a “free chat-style story app” in which stories unfold like chat messages. Readers work through the story by tapping to receive the next installment. It’s like reading someone else’s text conversation, except that it’s actually entertaining and the messages don’t arrive at funerals, weddings, and other inopportune moments when you could have sworn you turned your phone on silent.

All joking aside, this is a really innovative new medium. As you can imagine, creating a story that unfolds via text messages can be challenging, but there already writers logging into Wattpad to take a swing at it. Plenty of readers are discovering the fun, too.

Since the release of Tap, there have been over 125 million taps and more than 25 thousand stories uploaded, per Wattpad. It’s worth checking out, especially if you’re a reader interested in discovering new and talented voices. Find it at the iTunes Store and Google Play store.
