The weekend is here!

Like many of you, I try to use the weekend to catch up on reading. Therefore, every week, I will feature a paperback or ebook that is newly available — released during the week — for your reading enjoyment. A book I feel everyone should read.

For this Friday, I am choosing an old book but new ebook — Daughter of the Empire by Raymond E. Feist & Janny Wurts.

Why should you read this book? There are several reasons. Magician by Raymond E. Feist is a long-time celebrated epic fantasy novel, a story featuring a rift gateway forming between two very different worlds and their battle with one another. While Magician tells the tale from the point of view of one world’s characters, Daughter of the Empire tells the story from the other side. It makes for a gratifying read, learning more about one of my favorite epic fantasies.

But it goes beyond that for me. This was one of the first books I read that featured a female protagonist. And not only that, but a person of color! I remember loving Mara because she was something new, a breath of fresh air in my reading habits.

Read more below:

Magic and murder engulf the realm of Kelewan.

Fierce warlords ignite a bitter blood feud to enslave the empire of Tsuranuanni. While in the opulent Imperial courts, assassins and spy-master plot cunning and devious intrigues against the rightful heir.

Now Mara, a young, untested Ruling lady, is called upon to lead her people in a heroic struggle for survival. But first she must rally an army of rebel warriors, form a pact with the alien cho-ja, and marry the son of a hated enemy. Only then can Mara face her most dangerous foe of all–in his own impregnable stronghold. An epic tale of adventure and intrigue.

Daughter of the Empire is fantasy of the highest order by two of the most talented writers in the field today.

Daughter of the Empire by Raymond E. Feist & Janny Wurts expands on the epic fantasy story found in Feist’s Magician while being its own creation. It is every bit as political and filled with intrigue as A Game of Thrones, making it a natural read for George R. R. Martin fans. Feist and Wurts truly wrote something wonderful and now, with the new ebook, more people can read it!

So enter a whole new world — for the second time!

A new recommendation next Friday!
