LOVE MASTER A (??????A) • Kyoko Hashimoto • Go! Comi (2007-2008) • Akita Shoten (Monthly Princess, 2005-2006) • Shôjo Romantic Comedy • 2 volumes • 13+ (mild sexual situations)
Shy young Aria is ironically known as “Love Master” because she’s been rejected by 50 guys. But when she transfers to a new school, people assume her nickname is for real and ask her for love advice. Even stranger, she ends up on the first-year student council, a group of lovable weirdos who feud with the villainous second-years and try to strike down injustice such as the “no dating in the dorms” rule. This plainly drawn short manga series quickly veers from the “love master” premise and into clichéd school-clique hijinks. While it isn’t as fun as Happy Hustle High School or as funny as Ouran High School Host Club, the sweet relationship between the heroine and her dumb-but-likeable love interest makes it an agreeable read at just two volumes.
