Marvel is still rocking its off-kilter superhero movie universe with news about Doctor Strange and Deadpool!
Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange!
Benedict Cumberbatch has accepted the robe and rocking mustache of psychedelic sixties warlock superhero Doctor Strange. As you probably recall there’s been several actors associated with the role, and as early as July of this year Joaquim Phoenix had come pretty close to signing on. Marvel began negotiations with Cumberbatch last fall, and now it looks like the ink has dried on the paper. Scott Derrickson will direct. Look for the film to hit theaters on November 4, 2016.
Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool!
Ryan Reynolds will indeed be “the merc with a mouth” in a standalone Deadpool movie. You probably remember a bit of test footage of Reynolds as Deadpool making the rounds on the internet a few months back, and more than a few people suspected that the “leak” was just to gauge interest in a movie. Fans went nuts, the studio took interest, and Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool. Production will begin in March and Tim Miller will direct.
DC is a little slower than Marvel when it comes to churning out superhero flicks, but with Batman vs. Superman and Suicide Squad to look forward to, I suspect it will be worth the wait.
Jared Leto is The Joker!
Jared Leto has signed on to play The Joker in DC’s ensemble superhero film Suicide Squad. Leto will be appearing alongside a superstar cast including Will Smith, Tom Hardy (not playing Bane in this film), Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevinge. David Ayer is set to direct, and filming will begin in April 2015.
